A. D. H. Kaplan Papers

Abstract

Born in New York City in 1893, Abraham David Hannath Kaplan received his BS degree from New York University, his MA from the University of Denver, and his PhD from Johns Hopkins University. He was chair of the Department of Economics at DU from 1929 to 1944 and then was a senior staff member at the Brookings Institute in Washington, DC. He also published several books on economics. Kaplan died in 1974.

His correspondence with Alfred Blake Trott, president of Daniels & Fisher Company of Denver, Colorado from 1929-1944, details book collecting as well as travels, and reflects on the political and economic climate of the time in Europe and the United States. Abstract Adolf Goldhammer was born 1847 in Hungary and immigrated to Denver, Colorado in 1885 with his wife Betta and sons Abe and Jacob. He operated a liquor store and saloon hall that was often used as a meeting place for the Jewish community to hold meetings, plays and other cultural events.
